How do other teams see McCutchen?

Depends on the need for him. In the off season, the risks might outweigh the willingness to give up top prospects. But during the season when a serious contender is looking for an edge to get them over the top they might go all in and give up more than they should. But that would only happen if Cutch is having a good season. So if the Pirates are going to wait and trade him during the season, they run the risk of having him do poorly and reduce the trade return. No easy answer.

You unload him now if you get an offer that somewhat resembles last year's Washington offer.  Don't put it in the hands of Cutch hoping he goes off early.
I don't disagree with you. As I said, there are no easy answers. If they trade him this off season, there will be concerns about him having just a few good months in 2 years even tho he has a year left of control. The return for him will reflect those concerns and Pirates fans will be upset that the Bucs didn't obtain more. If they wait for the trade deadline, he may be having a poor year and the return for half a season will be even less. But if he's raking, the return will be even more from a contender who's going all in. Ironically, in terms of length of control, the Bucs will get more for a half season of a strong Cutch than a full season of the Cutch that teams have seen the past 2 years. Whichever way they go, it's a gamble.

Apparently the Giants have inquired about Cutch. This presumably would be more serious if they Giants don't get Stanton.

McCutchen had his son and named him Steel.

Maybe he does want to stay in the Steel City?
