Peguero has to be out of options now.
Don't be disgruntled. Be gruntled.

Suwinski- 2hits 3 RBI's
It makes us all happy Wizard!

However......Pirates still struck out 11 times, which taking a quick glance at the box score seems to be almost as many times as they were hit by pitches.

Pirates have been doing much better with RISP so far this spring. Having said that, and thinking I might go back and total it all up, I just jinxed them.

The starting pitchers continue to do a great job. If this team can be MLB average offensively and by that I mean scoring runs, which is the only stat that matters in the end, they can be pretty good.

Still, lot of ifs. But the 40 man is really starting to look pretty strong top to bottom, without having a whole lot of pizzazz. I'm wondering if there might be some buyers remorse with Frazier, he hasn't really done much, and quite honestly, he's redundant. But, he just make take a Peguero's spot, who is another that IMHO needs to really stand out, or get shipped out. I think the NRI's are putting some pressure on the GM, and that''s good.

Long ways to go, but March is right around the corner!

You are right about the NRI players. Gorski, Stewart and Solak have all been very good so far. I hope they can keep it up.

Just wondering if the Pirates have had any conversations regarding trading IKF. There are some teams still looking for infielders, and he does have a larger salary in Pirate terms. With moving him that would leave a hole at shortstop, but they possibly would begin trying Triolo, Peguero, Gonzales or even Williams. With Frazier on board either he or Yorke would cover second base. Just a thought, and I am not actually sold on this idea.

The Pirates could trade just about any of the position players and it wouldn’t make much difference in the number of wins and losses. Having said that, IK-F is the only legit shortstop on the roster, and he’s fairly ordinary. I wouldn’t trust any of the others you mentioned to handle the position for the entire season. Triolo may be the best choice to fill the role, but he seems better suited to play any of the other three infield positions. For an organization that collects middle infielders by the bushel they’ve sure missed the boat when it comes to acquiring shortstops.

Tanner Rainey looks to me as someone who will join the bullpen this season. He had a clean outing this afternoon. Then Griffin gives the Bucs the lead with a homer. Nice!

Connor Griffin with a home run today, hit to right center field. Nice piece of hitting. He’s a bigger guy than I remember him being when I saw video of him last year. It’d be nice if he turns out to be a really good player.

Right now everything is clicking for the Pirates. With Horowitz probably starting the season on the IL the Bucs probably have two regular position players to add to the Opening Day roster. Gorski, as well as Stewart, Suwinski, and Yorke have all been doing well. Pitching wise the final three spots for the bullpen will be difficult to decide. Right now I would think the bullpen would include Bednar, Holderman, Santana, Nicholas, Mlodzinski, Rainey,Ferguson and Mayza. That is leaving a pitcher like Burrows off the 26 man roster. Who knows possibly a pitcher could be moved before Opening Day, which would open a spot for one of the young pitchers.

Two big innings by the Tigers sink the Bucs today. Mayza and Shugart giving up 3 and 5.

Bucs hit 3 HR's. Davis, Endy, and Hall. Jones gives up a run in 2.2 IP.

Bucs fan 10 times.

Pirates doing no fees promotion for tickets through March 7th.

9 games down, 22 to go (counting two split squad days).
