Pirates drop their first game of the spring, 2-1 to the Braves. Once again, the Pirates get an excellent start this time from Jones.

Good to see Hayes with 2 more hits, he has three already this spring. Not good to see, two players the Pirates are needing bounce back years to previous form, Bednar and Holderman, both give up a run today in their first game action.

The 40 man roster position players have only driven in 2 of the Pirates 16 runs this spring, and that's an early concern. It would be nice to see one or two guys have a break out spring heading into the regular season, and I'm not talking the NRI guys.

Good to see Davis is hitting. It is only ST but it could be a confidence boost for him. Also Gorski may be catching the attention of the baseball ops staff.

Pirates with 6 errors in 5 games, they have to be better. They're once again showing that they can't put the ball over the fence, they're not exactly a track team on the bases, so two areas they knew they needed to be better at haven't shown any form of improvement. They can't be giving away outs and runs on top of it.

On the plus side, most of the guys playing in the two games were 40 man roster dudes, and Suwinski hitting a HR is encouraging. Gorski with another HR, playing first base. He's played three different positions so far. Malcolm Nunez, who I recall was a favorite to get a shot among Pirates fans, has shown nothing and has been playing first base.

Adam Frazier also played first base this spring.

I'm making an early prediction that Bae (barring a rash of injuries) will not be on the 40 man roster to start the season, and Gorski will be.

I agree with you regarding Bae’s status. The way Stewart has started he may get added to the roster as the fourth outfielder. I hope Gorski is for real, because the Pirates need a power bat.

Stewart has power and is able to draw walks. Not sure how his defense is. He looks to be like someone that can only play against right handers. In looking at his splits from last year he had 849 ops at end of April and 4 homers. Never was over 500 the rest of the season (he went to AAA in July or so) Maybe he can have a career year with the Pirates. Us fans deserve something good to happen. Gerritt Jones came from out of nowhere at one time.

I see Stewart got another double in his first at bat vs the Twins. It is not yet March, but he is hitting like he wants to be on the roster on Opening Day.

Connor Griffin appears to be a very smart individual. I heard the interview after the game on Sunday, and his responses were very humble. I would hope he can advance through the Organization quickly so he can play with Skenes, Chandler and some of the younger Pirate players. If he develops like they hope he does, I am sure he will be a fan favorite.

Seems very mature for a 18 yr.old.Some advice-hang out with Skenes. Avoid Cruz

This should make Surg happy. Bucs blow out Twins 12-1 on Ten hits
Suwinski- 2hits 3 RBI's

It makes us all happy Wizard!

However......Pirates still struck out 11 times, which taking a quick glance at the box score seems to be almost as many times as they were hit by pitches.

Pirates have been doing much better with RISP so far this spring. Having said that, and thinking I might go back and total it all up, I just jinxed them.

The starting pitchers continue to do a great job. If this team can be MLB average offensively and by that I mean scoring runs, which is the only stat that matters in the end, they can be pretty good.

Still, lot of ifs. But the 40 man is really starting to look pretty strong top to bottom, without having a whole lot of pizzazz. I'm wondering if there might be some buyers remorse with Frazier, he hasn't really done much, and quite honestly, he's redundant. But, he just make take a Peguero's spot, who is another that IMHO needs to really stand out, or get shipped out. I think the NRI's are putting some pressure on the GM, and that''s good.

Long ways to go, but March is right around the corner!
