2022 Draft

Post by UtahPirate »

Talking all college 4-year players now. Guys with zerro bargaining position if they want to keep playing.

No HS surprises.

This draft looks to be about saving money to make sure we get Johnson, Harrington and Kennedy - that and a bunch of flyers on LHPs.

His bio is impressive. Nice hitting stats. He’s a big guy, too.

There he is, the HS flyer - Tejada at Round 19. At 6'7" he is pretty interesting. Obviously a project and with a commitment to Florida it looks like.

"2nd-rder Hunter Barco signs with Pirates for $1,525,000 (slot 44 = $1,776,100). Gators LHP, deceptive fastball to 95, sweeping slider, solid changeup. Looked like certain 1st-rder before Tommy John surgery this spring." - Callis

"3rd-rder Jack Brannigan signs with Pirates for $770,700 (full slot 83 value). ND RHP/3B, up to 100 mph with fastball & flashed mid-80s wipeout slider on mound, prefer to play every day (average power, solid defender). Most clubs prefer on mound." - Callis

I am sure I am wrong, but is anyone out there besides me, wondering why Johnson has not yet signed a contract. I am sure contract discussions take place before a player is drafted, and I know he has a slotted amount at #4 pick. I just figured he would sign during this short home stand so he could take in a game, meet the media, have an interview from PNC Park during the game. On draft night he wore the Pirates jersey, and he has talked to last years #1 choice Henry Davis. Which are all positive signs. I am sure he will sign before the August 1, deadline, but I am a little surprised it has not yet happened.

I don’t know, and I hope it is not the Boras Group. I just wonder why he has not signed when players chosen ahead of him have signed, and a couple players picked after him have signed. They still have time to get it done, and send him to minor league camp.

Time is wasting. Top picks above and below, signed, sealed and awaiting delivery. ;)

Not as much time as in the past number of years. Don't they have an early August sign-by date this year?
