"Per source, Pirates have 'genuine interest' in free-agent RHP Kyle Gibson and the two sides recently talked via a video call.
Last season, Gibson was second on the Phillies’ staff with 31 starts and went 10-8 with a 5.05 ERA." - Biertempfel

I am happy that the Pirates are talking to some of the free agent pitchers, and if they sign Gibson that is fine. I would like that they sign a lefty pitcher for the rotation as well. At this point they are a right handed staff. I wish that Quintana would return, but he will probably sign with a team closer to competing for the postseason.

Catcher Ali Sanchez was claimed off waivers from the Pirates. There was nothing showing that the Bucs had placed him on waivers. The Diamond Backs claimed him. Roster now at 39 players.

Same thing I just saw on the transaction page with Miguel Yajure, the Giants claimed him off waivers. This one is a real head scratcher.

have to wonder if anyone else was placed on waivers too and not claimed.
don't mind Ali but agree Yajure is a headscratcher, especially if with some of the others still on roster (Underwood for example).

Looks like they put multiple players on waivers to make room on the roster for some free agents as well as a Rule 5 pick.

Gibson has been signed by Baltimore per sources. The Pirates will have to look to someone else to sign.

I would prefer a left handed starting pitcher. I am guessing Quintana is out of their price range.
