he doesn't have much of a bat so maybe he is very good defensively.  I'm sure at least one additional catcher to him will be brought in.  He makes Austin Hedges look like  a good hitter.

Sweet, a .197 BA with close to 700 MLB at bats. This is genius. Who will be the top pick for the 2021 draft?

His career aspiration is to one day be mentioned in the same breath as Keith Osik. :)

Scouts never forget: Maile was drafted but not signed by the Red Sox in 2009, so BC gets to put another bird on his life list.

I spent about ten minutes trying to figure out what this signing had to do with Rick Sweet, a light-hitting catcher of the early 80s.

And not to be confused with Louis Malle.

Is this guy really an upgrade over Diaz?

I laughed at this. Well played. But he hit a career .234. Don't mock him.

I actually kind of like this signing. The only thing the Pirates are competing for next year is the top draft pick in 2021. May as well get used to that reality. The last thing they need to do (and I'm serious about this...no sarcasm) is go sign a top tier catcher. To be perfectly frank, if they win more than 50 games next year, I'll consider that a failure.

Maile is supposed to be a strong defensive catcher. I believe they want to have a good defensive team.

I get that the Pirates have a rich tradition when it comes to dumpster diving. But do we have to reach the bottom of the dumpster to pull out our players. Why get rid of Diaz for this career stiff?

We are competing for the first pick overall for the next decade worth of drafts.
