True enough through the season. But the last few games others have seriously picked up the OBP.  And now Bell is leaving runners. And it sure seems that the SOs are way up

Pirates will the last two games if he just gets decent contact.

That's true but it's just the nature of baseball that no one stays hot forever. Everyone strings together a few nonproductive games. Pitchers are trying very hard to get Bell out.

While Bell has produced nearly a 3rd of the Pirates' runs, the team remains only 12th in the NL in scoring and has scored 29 runs less than the league average. They just aren't getting enough from others.

Yesterday Bell drove in the 2nd run with a productive out. Better than a K. In the 6th, he led off with a double. Nobody brought him in. In the 8th, Reynolds led off with a double. Marte didn't drive him in. Bell then struck out. And Cabrera didn't drive in Reynolds either. Bell didn't bat in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th or 9th. His teammates produced a total of 1 run in those innings.

On Saturday he had a bad game with 4 Ks. He was certainly due for a bad game. But they scored 10 runs anyway and the pitching failed them (again). But even in a 10 run, 18 hit attack, Bell only batted with RISP twice. And he led off the bottom of the 11th with a walk but nobody brought him in with the winning run.

Bell is going to have games where he doesn't get a big hit when it's needed. That's baseball. But when he doesn't, they need others to step up. Saturday, the pitchers failed to step up. Sunday the other hitters failed to step up. There's no balance on the team.

Let’s hope this is a short slump.
He’s being too aggressive and is chasing all of the low outside pitches. Hopefully he looks at the video and starts letting those pitches go or every club is going to start exploiting him.

As great as Bell has been, he really cost the Pirates yesterday and today. Two tough losses

This is exactly the problem. It's all up to him. He needs to decide that he is going to allow himself to be walked for the rest of the summer. His last couple of at bats yesterday were painful. He wanted to drive in the run so bad and therefore chased pitches WAY off the plate. He needs to take the walk and trust the next guy up.

The Pirates I think have to decide soon here whether this team is good enough to continue stay in this race and possibly contend for a wildcard spot, or if they aren’t good enough and should begin the process of selling. If Huntington does think this team is good enough then he needs to do something here to get this pitching staff some help and get some of these guys that are on the current roster now such as Clay Holmes for example the hell out of here. I’m not talking about making a blockbuster type deal or even Keuchel for that matter but go and try and get somebody that can pitch better then Kingham or Brault. Names that come to mind are Mike Minor, Marcus Strohman, Marco Gonzalez, Mike Leake just to make a few. These guys aren’t superstars but I mean they are better then what they have now.

I really feel this week with these 3 games with the Braves and 3 at Milwaukee this weekend things really have the potential to start spiraling out of control if the Pirates don’t sure somethings up here. The bottom I really feel is very close to falling out from under this team and tough decisions need to be made here sooner rather then later.

The Bucs remain within striking distance in the NL Central with a 28-30 record, but it is hard for me to really consider them a contender.

The starting rotation is a mess. At present, none of the starters can really be counted on to consistently give the team a chance to win. Lyles has been good for the first 2+ months, but that could be a mirage. Musgrove and Archer have had as many really bad starts as decent or good starts. Kingham and Brault really don't belong in a ML rotation as regular starters.

The bullpen has some strengths, particularly Vasquez and Liriano (Hard to Believe), and Crick has generally been good. The remainder of the pen can cause a heart attack at any point in time.

The team has quite a few .300 hitters --- Bell, Reynolds, Cabrera and Newman --- and some others who are not far behind, recently Diaz. That said, with the exception of Bell, none of the above hitters instills fear in opposing pitchers. If everyone is firing on the same cylinder at the same time, the offense could be good. But, that is unrealistic for the Bucs or most other teams. All of the Pirate hitters have flaws.

Overall summation. The offense can be okay, but the offense is not good enough to make up for bad pitching by the starters and the relievers. And, the starting pitching and relief pitching is not good enough to regularly make up for an offense that is often found wanting.

At this point, and as currently constituted, I do not believe the Pirates should be considered a contender.

They need to be healthy. If Taillon and Williams were back in the rotation, this team would look totally different.
