Let’s Get Austin Hayes
Hayes is 29 years old, can play the corner outfield positions. He had a down year last year, but he had productive years prior. Probably his salary would fall in the 7 million dollar range which for the Pirates is affordable. He is not a huge home run hitter, but gets his share of doubles. The Pirates projected team payroll for 2025 is around 70 million. Sign Hayes and Cutch and payroll would be around 83 million. The team still has money to shop for relief help. Bob should be happy because it is almost like shopping at Dollar Tree!

i sure hope if the Pirates get an outfielder it is somebody better than Hayes. I think he doesn't walk enough and strikes out too much. In addition to his poor 2024 season his second half in 2023 was bad (228 average and 667 ops). If he is acquired as a free agent it should be a very cheap contract.
The Bucs paid 10 million for Chapman they should be able to go higher than that for somebody who could make a difference to the line up.

7 million
