I am not a fan of WAR, so I don't know.  David Ortiz being ranked 36th in WAR after his 2016 season is the reason why.  WAR is an estimation.

$40m in 3 FA this offseason. Total payroll will wind up over $145M.

It's sad to see them mortgage the future like that. With that payroll, it's obvious they're doomed for the next 4-5 seasons.

Lol it's a shame! Stop trying so hard KC! Just throwing money at half rate free agent pitchers is no off season strategy. What about 2020? Did they ever think about that?

Don't worry when the time is right the Pirates will spend the necessary money they have in free agency or via trade and go out and acquire that 1 or 2 players that can make a difference and get them over the hump. Coonelly,NH, and Nutting said it themselves and how dare anybody question that they will actually do this.
