I'm with you VA I think it's time to sell guys such as Cutch and maybe even Cole. The window I do believe is closed as well and the Pirates are not going to win a World Series with this current group of players.

I don't think a complete rebuild is necessary.  The Pirates still have many younger players signed to great deals.  The starting pitching looks good for a few years.  The players who could/should be traded have replacements in the minors who are very close.

I don't know.  Very frustrating start.  I do think not having Marte, Frazier, Kang, Freese was a huge blow.  We will see how the team does when Freese and Frazier get back.  Could make a huge difference.  Could.  Taillon's status being in question could end this season real quick.  I am hoping a few weeks, but that is best case scenario.

Pittsburgh should have started the rebuild in the offseason sending Cutch to Washington.  Didn't need to ask for Robles too.  Giolitto and the other two prospects were more then enough.  His stock is dwindling.  If you are rebuilding, Cole needs to be dealt at the trade deadline.  He isn't resigning.  If he is healthy, he could command a very nice return.

I think you grossly overrate the youngsters in this organization.  Maybe Meadows becomes the stud ... maybe Glasnow figures it out ... but we don't have much pitching that will make an impact IMO. Where is this starting pitching you are talking about coming from? Tallion? Sure. Nova? Yep ... who else? Not sure at all. Glasnow is a major ???

It could be worse.

While not terrible, Jose Quintana is having is worst season to date.

In fact, it should be a poll. "Who still thinks we should have traded Austin Meadows and Josh Bell for Jose Quintana?"

You're quite right, it could be worse. As one who advocated strongly for the Pirates to acquire Quintana I can say without hesitation that I was wrong. The Pirates starting pitching is the least of this team's worries. In my own defense I didn't see the loss of Kang and Marte coming but I should have been more aware that this Pirate team had significant shortcomings on offense. The potential offense that Bell and Meadows represent is now critically important for this team moving forward. Much more so than even a "good" Quintana would have been for the rotation.

Huntington doesn't get enough credit for moves he didn't make. What if they did extend McCutchen and he got a "Joey Votto like contract"? So many wanted this to happen, but the Pirates are too cheap. Were they cheap or smart?

Trading for Quintana would have been awful if his numbers were the same in the NL.

and keeping Cutch, who's value is dropping is awesome. Let's stop thinking NH is batting 1000%. He has made some good shrewd moves over the year's. He has made some very foolish moves as well. Don't kid yourself.

To be clear, it would have been a bad trade because the team is a mess and all of the Jose Quintanas in the world would not help it much.

I didn't say he was batting 1000%. Overall, I do think he is doing a good job. He has moved guys at the right time most of the time too. You still need a trade partner. McCutchen is a huge question mark. Has a super star dropped off as much as he has at his age? Not many wanted to give McCutchen away.

I'd say that he's moved on most of the time at the right time, just not always for the "right" return.

For example?

I think Huntington's worst trade return was for Freddy Sanchez. Tim Alderson never panned out and Sanchez was a top second baseman at the time. It was still the right time to trade him since the rebuilding was starting.
