I don't really get what Girardi did wrong though. Aren't the Yankees ahead of schedule--wasn't this sort of a surprise year?

I agree that I don't see what he did wrong. However, I think a professional coach with the same team for a long time can get to the point where he is tuned out. While most of the players are young on the Yankees, it may be that the team just wants a different voice at the top.

I have wondered if Hurdle is in that area for the Pirates. I will always respect him because I think his attitude was greatly needed to make the team a winner but with the sloppy play the last couple of years I have wondered if the team has tuned him out. Getting a new face may be a good jolt for Cutch, Marte and Polanco with some of the lackadaisical play we see on the field.

Maybe the Yankees just want Dusty Baker... ;)

It goes on -- the Cubs "cleaned house," according to ESPN, discharging a number of assistant coaches --

If you're a coach, there seems to be danger in making the playoffs unless you go all the way.

His managing during their playoff run was atrocious. He totally botched the reply thing. He was ridiculous with his pitching decisions...which is a real feat considering there is a DH and he didn't have to worry about pitchers hitting.

I'll take your word for it as I didn't see many of the games.  I just knew that they were typically being predicted to finsish anywhere between 3-last in their division, as an up-and-comer but still a few years out.  This in contrast to the Nats who were expected to win.

I mean, at least I expected the Nationals to win the WS. And I'm always right, heh.
