Finishing .500 means nothing to me anymore and it should mean nothing to most Pirates fans. The goal is to have a winning record and make the playoffs and right now this team pretty much after this recent 6-16 stretch has zero percent chance of doing so.

They will be moving pieces before or on the trade deadline. This roster won't stay in tact. We don't have the consistency from the starting rotation to go one game above .500 the rest of the way out. We have no depth in our rotation either.

I certainly agree. There is no way they stay over .500.

Hey, I said they were going to win 77 games, which is looking pretty good right now.  But things can happen we don't expect.  Just dismissing the idea that they can do it seems a bit premature (in the same way it was premature to say we would win the division a few weeks ago just because we had a hot stretch and were in a one game lead).

If we can just find a way to have a .500 season this year, we can use that to defend the FO for the next 3 years...  come on Pirates!  This team was a contender this year for 2 months before the usual nosedive.

Some of the roster decisions being made are not baseball moves, so the org isn't really trying either.  Frazier going down instead of SRod being released or DFA'ed is just asset management.   Moroff is hot again in AAA, and could be called up to replace SRod.   Newman could be called up to replace SRod.    We have no need for him in the OF, so he's essentially a backup infielder with a no bad and a suspect glove lately.

SRod has hit like .170 for a full calendar year now. Check out the numbers for yourselves. You can't replace this guy?

I think as Pirate fans, we all understand they won't compete financially to obtain or hold onto top players. All we ask is that they make the best use of what they've got. And that's why it's so maddening to see them run so poorly from the roster decisions of NH to the dugout decisions of CH.

They will use the two months and the 26-17 start to justify that they were good enough this year to compete. I heard Huntington’s comments on Rodriguez yesterday and they were absurd for him trying to justify keeping him around longer. You can listen to the comments by Huntington in that interview and wonder why this team doesn’t win games and is not successful.

Ya it’s flat out inexcusable for the Pirates to not only keep Rodriguez around but for Hurdle to start him 1/3 of the time as well. No other team in baseball would be doing this kind of thing. Now Rodriguez is a great guy we get that and I have no problem with him personally but that’s not a good enough reason for me to keep him around on this team when there are better options available. Listening to Huntington it doesn’t sound like he is gong anywhere anytime soon which is just flat out insane.

I think infield change is imminent. Jordy’s contract is up and will likely be gone by the trade deadline. SRod’s contract is up as well – I would not be surprised if TBMTIB is playing SRod hoping he gets hot and will command some warm prospect in return and save some salary. The Buc’s hold team options on Harrison, but I think he will be traded. Freese’s contract is up and I doubt the Buc’s pick up his team option either.

Kang will be here shortly. Newman is ready (Tucker is not). Moroff, Bostic, Reyes, Frazier, and Kramer are all options. All the guys in bold will be around tonight, but some will be moved shortly, and none will be a Pirate opening day of 2019.

I bet they keep Harrison around though, but I agree with you mostly
