Coaching Changes

I have not seen any rumors for the first base coach, but I am going to guess they go outside the organization and hire someone with some background on base running ability.

Sittin here thinkin which could be dangerous! Could the move to hire Cora be considered as someone who is relatively new to the organization just in case they decide to jettison Clint during the season? I say that because he could be a breath of fresh air from the dugout considering all the complaints that we hear about Clint and his managerial style.

Just thinkin!

Cora could be considered to replace Clint if the 2017 goes sour. It appeared Cora was well respected with the Curve, and I think he might have the desire to become a big league manager.

Tom Prince and Kimera Bartee have been named additional coaches today. Bartee will be first base coach and Prince will be new bench coach. Dave Jauss will remain as coach but no longer bench coach.

All the coach-change activity does seem to indicate that if things don't get better next year Clint Hurdle is gone.

As a bucs fan, here's hoping he succeeds.

When a team doesn't seem to be playing up to its potential shake-ups often happen. The question is will that continue to the player side?

I wonder how his duties change. Seems like a meaningless change in title.

Not really. Ed Ott was a bench coach in Houston and hated it. He said he usually couldn't even watch the game. He always had his head buried in a stat book to tell Leyland the mgr how each batter and pitcher had fared against each other. I think different teams use their bench coach differently but Ott said his job was to have info on the ready for the mgr at all times.

Haha, I suppose I don't know what "coach" does any more than I know about "bench coach." ;D

Actually, it wasn't Leyland though. Can't remember who the mgr was.

A few years ago after attending a Pirates fantasy camp in the winter, we got to play a short game at PNC the following summer. They select a camper to be a player/manager for the game. My team's manager (a good friend) jokingly asked me to be the bench coach and I eagerly agreed. All during the game I checked the nuts and bolts holding the bench together and told the players not to make a mess on the bench with their equipment. They got a good laugh at my bench coaching duties.
