He is having back troubles but the team is not saying anything about any progress in healing. Maybe 3pirates3 can dig out some info for us.

Maybe just shut him down for the remainder of the season. Why waste him. Also gives the Bucs a better chance of finishing with the worst record.

From the Pirates website:
"Bednar threw a side bullpen on Sept. 4, per manager Derek Shelton. The team will evaluate how he feels on Monday. Bednar was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 3, retroactive to July 31. He has not pitched in a game since July 29. (Last updated: Sept. 4)"

Right after Bednar went on the DL a month or so ago, Cherington was being interviewed during a game by Brown. Cherington they were going to take some time to get Bednar's back right ---- although he immediately said if these were October games Bednar would be pitching. :-/

These are now audition times in Pittsburgh. We know that
Bednar can be a plus pitcher if he is healthy. If he is not 100%, and I mean 100%, there is no reason for him to pitch again this season.
I hate watching the team lose game after game, but if keeping Bednar out of games now helps him be completely healed for next year, please give me another inning of two of Yajure, Underwood, Ramirez, or whoever else may be in the pen tomorrow.
It also is distressing that Holderman is now out for the rest of the season. Nearly all of the relievers who have shown any promise have dropped by the wayside due to injury.
