Could The Pirates Make History

Post by fjk090852-7 »

I have been a Pirates Fan for 60 years, and I cannot remember them firing the field manager this early in the season. I believe Harry Walker was fired in July. The Larry Shepard was let go in late September. I think Virdon and McClendon were September casualties. If I remember correctly GM Pete Peterson was fired in May of 1985, I believe. After this sad road trip,I expect some player movement, and I would not be shocked if Shelton or Haines were let go. This team needs a jolt, and I don’t think Paul Skenes is the only answer.

Looks like Murtaugh took over for Bobby Bragan around August 1, 1957.

The team had 3 managers in 1917: Jimmy Callahan for 60 games, Honus Wagner for 5 (I think he then begged off), and then Hugo Bezdek.

Where's Hugo Bezdek when you need him?
There's no basement in the Alamo.

What will probably happen is this: Up next is a 3 game series against Colorado. Their
pitching staff has the worst ERA in all of baseball. Somehow the bucs will win 2 of 3 and Shelton will
say, " we have turned the corner"

I believe great players make great Coaches. Jim Leyland was a great Coach for us when he had great players. Not so much when they salary dumped.

Would Bill Belicheck have 6 SB rings without Tom Brady?
