Official Game Thread - 9/23 - Bucs @ Reds

Post by Possum »

Bucs

RF J. Palacios L
LF B. Reynolds S
DH K. Hayes R
CF J. Suwinski L
3B Jared Triolo R
C E. Rodriguez S
1B A. Rivas L
2B Ji Hwan Bae L
SS A. Williams R
SP Bailey Falter L

Reds

2B J. India R
LF Nick Senzel R
1B S. Steer R
DH C. Encarnacion-Strand R
C T. Stephenson R
3B Noelvi Marte R
CF TJ Friedl L
RF S. Fairchild R
SS E. De La Cruz S
SP Connor Phillips R

Looks like an opener game for the Bucs. And Williams is starting for defensive purposes to help Falter get through a couple of innings. Once Falter is out of the game, in comes Peggy to relieve him.

Why isn’t Bae leading off and Palacios hitting in a power position? Is this a decision by the analytics guys and then sold to Shelton?

The analytics guys are indeed the problem. Remember the days when a manager would run out the same lineup almost every day with only the occasional platooning?

Yes, I remember. I think, more than anything, it’s the amount of money that’s changed things. They have so much invested in the players today that they’ll error on the side of caution by resting them perhaps more than they need to in order to minimize the chance of injury. On the one hand, they want them on the field and, on the other, they rest them more.

Other than Reynolds’ walk, the Bucs can’t put the ball in play in the 1st. Reds coming to bat.

While the Bucs strike out three times in the first, the Reds score three times in their half with a couple of HRs. 3-0 Reds.
