John Jaso...
I am hoping the Pirates are really trying to trade him over the next 10 days or so either before or at the deadline so that can open up a spot for Josh Bell to come up here and play at least 3-4 times a week at 1st base as you can platoon Bell, Freese, and,Kang between 1st and 3rd. Jaso's OBP started out pretty good when the season began but has now gotten progressively worse each month since April. If I am Huntington as this point seeing how good Bell looked when he was up here a few weeks ago I am on the phone constantly looking for anything possible to get rid of John Jaso so that Bell can get back up here and make this Pirates team better.
Guys like Bell, Glasnow, and even Kuhl need to be up here full time after August 1st to help this team make a strong playoff push. If you want to not make a trade for any players trade both Locke and Jaso so that you can officially open up spots full time for both Bell and Glasnow once August starts.

I am starting to agree with you. I didn't realize Jaso was down to .267. I thought he was a .300 hitter that got on base. I wasn't really paying attention to him. I prefer Freese to play over him.
I just don't know the market for Jaso. A team that is rebuilding wouldn't want him or give up anything. Maybe a contending team could use him off the bench?
Then I think the Pirates could use him in that role too, bench player. But that would mean Frazier would be the odd man out and I think Frazier adds more with his multiple positions and his speed.

Yea I am keeping Frazier at this point as well in favor of Jaso. He adds a lot of different elements off the bench that Jaso does not for a team contending for a playoff spot like the Pirates. I don't know the exact terms of Jaso's contract I think it was 2 years 8 million which really isn't all that much.
I would trade basically anything for him to get Bell up here now. And if you cant trade him then DFA him in favor of Bell. The Pirates are a much better team with Bell on the roster over Jaso. And if Pirates management doesn't see this or doesn't believe it then they need to have their heads examined multiple times.
It just gets frustrating when the Pirates just wait and wait and wait and wait to call a guy up who can help you win games when you're in as tight of a race as you are now. Every game they don't call Bell back up and don't win is another game where you fail to give yourself the best possible chance to win by having the best players on the team.

I doubt they DFA Jaso because they have another 4 million tied up with him in 2017. I would think they may move Joyce since his contract is only for this year. Jaso would become a part time player and pinch hitter off bench.

I know he only has a one year deal but I am not dumping him instead of Jaso just to dump somebody for Bell. Trading Jaso in favor of Bell makes sense dumping Joyce for Bell and keeping Jaso and Bell instead of Joyce and Bell just because Jaso makes more money then Joyce would not be a smart move and would not make you a better team moving forward.

If they can trade Jaso that would be fine. I doubt they would just DFA him with that much money tied up in him.

At this point I trade whatever you can get for him. If you get a guy in A or AA ball for him you take the deal and say thank you very much now we can call Bell back up and get him on the roster.

As I wrote in another thread (see below), John Jaso must go. Making room for Bell is something the Pirates should do, and do sooner rather than later. If you have to move a bench guy to do this Jaso is the obvious choice as he clearly offers less value than Freese, Joyce, SRod or Frazier for many reasons.
All things considered Jaso isn't really such a good bench option. He is limited to playing only one position, 1B, and he doesn't provide exceptional defense there or any power. His career OPS against left-hand pitching is .522 so he's really only effective against right-handers. The one thing he does well is to make a pitcher work deep into counts and to get on base (although his .340 OB percentage this year places him 7th among the 11 Pirate's who have more than 150 plate appearances). Lastly, as a bench guy with less than average foot speed when he does reach base you may be forced to pinch run for him and thus have to burn another player.
IMO Jaso should be traded ASAP and Bell promoted to share time with Freese at 1B.

I think a bench should have hitters. They are mostly there to pinch hit. That is why I think Jaso would be alright on the bench.

So how do you get Bell on the roster then?? Would you rather send Adam Frazier down for Bell who has been phenomenal in his role and can do a lot of different things over trading Jaso who adds basically nothing other then a mediocre bat off the bench.
