We all knew that was the reason Cole was traded. Nutting was not going to allow Cole to receive big bucks thru arbitration. The same fate awaits every Pirate.

Cole may never have gotten that much if he stayed in Pittsburgh. The Bucs were all about fastball command with Cole and the Astros were more about throwing his slider and curveball more and that led to greater success. I'm not sure that success would have happened in Pittsburgh.

The pitching coach down there has done a fantastic job. He resurrected Charlie Morton's career, resurrected a seemingly declining Verlander and got the most out of Cole.
