he has some power, good chance both Goodwin and Wolters play for Bucs at some point this year.

This could be a good signing. In his only full season as a starter in 2019 he hit .262 with 17 HRs.

I like the signing as well. As a lefty hitter he may take advantage of the right field wall. He could be a trade candidate in July, and if not he is under control for the 2022 season.

Actually like this signing. Impressed with the movement today with the C as well. We have a better C situation this year than last.

Wish we had signed a right-handed hitting corner OF to platoon with Polanco, but perhaps we still will. Goodwin will at least provide depth, and should be a much-needed lefty ph with power.

According to Jason Mackey Brian Goodwin has been released from his contract. He is now a free agent.

He had signed a minor league contract with an opt out clause. I think it was mutual because he did not want to go to the minors.

hard to believe they didn't say, wait a couple more days and Tom will be gone.

Perhaps that has happened and technically he had to opt out or go to minors.

Three comments (all of which are conjecture on my part) on Goodwin's opt-out:

1) He was hitting so poorly at the alternate site that not even the Pirates thought he was worth a major league contract.

2) Alternatively, he believes he was hitting/playing well enough that another major league team will be sure to sign him; particularly with all of the injuries around MLB this year.

3) Goodwin had a contract for at least $1.25 mil (could have been $1.5 mil) if I recall correctly if the Pirates added him to the major league roster. Pittsburgh determined that they were unwilling to pay this amount and were trying to renegotiate his contract before adding him to the roster. In short, in a year that it appears the team will be going nowhere, why pay Goodwin over a mil when players like Tom, Fowler and Alford are available for the major league minimum.
