This link is quite the source for any baseball junkie. It lists, among other things, all the guys in our system who will become Rule 5 eligible after next season. I've listed my Top 15 by position with ages.

Starting pitchers:

Adrian Florencio,23, our minor league pitcher of the year, and our top ranked pitcher in Fan Graphs' Power Ranking (FGPR) at 151.

Luis Ortiz,22, 2nd best starter on Bradenton's power house, FGPR at 258.

Michael Burrows,21, ranked 14 by official site, 31 at Fan Graphs.

Ricky DeVito,23, 37 at Fan Graphs.

Santiago Florez,21, Rule 5 eligible this year, 38 at Fan Graphs.

Braxton Ashcraft,22, former 2nd round pick, 50 at Fan Graphs.

Trey McGough,23, was our top ranked lefty, FGPR at 624. (Ouch)

Catcher: Endy Rodriguez,21, ranked 19 by official site, 25 at Fan Graphs, FGPR at 92.

2B: Ji-hwan Bae,22, ranked 22 by official site, 11 at Fan Graphs.

3B: Jared Triolo,23, 44 at Fan Graphs, FGPR at 80.

SS: Maikel Escotto,19, ranked 20 by official site, 15 at Fan Graphs.

OF:

Cal Mitchell, 22, Rule 5 eligible this year, ranked 18 by official site, 28 at Fan Graphs, FGPR at 222.

Matt Frazier,23, ranked 23 by official site, FGPR at 49 - highest FGPR in our system!

Rodolfo Nolasco,20, 23 at Fan Graphs

Lolo Sanchez,22, FGPR at 90 (Surprising!)

Obviously next year's performance will clarify who the "must protect" prospects are, but I'll be shocked if they don't include Florencio, Rodriguez, Bae, Escotto and Frazier. And I fear that Mitchell will be taken in this year's Rule 5.

Looking forward to your comments!

Appreciate your effort on this- I am going to have to do some research on some of these prospects. Some, I am not familiar with

It seems as though Mitchell has been playing forever. Hard to believe he's just now reaching Rule 5 eligibility.

Still think we will have another volatile 40-man roster next year too with a bunch of dudes we can get rid of. Some of those prospects will continue to make a case, while others will take a step back.

The way we can stop this from being a major discussion is packing some of these dudes on the fence for some major league help. Nothing wrong with that.

Hopefully both Florencio and Ortiz make it an easy decision, by moving into AA by years end. Bad thing with the missed year counting for guys like that.

Ashcraft is out all year, and DeVito was also hurt, but do not remember how severe his injury was.

Burrows would be added if he was eligible this year, same with Fraizer. Bae, Triolo and Rodriguez seem like locks too.

I think Florez was eligible this past draft, and did not do that well in High A. Lolo was eligible for sure, he played well, but I doubt they protect him.

We will see with Mitchell, I would imagine he is exposed this year. Escotto did not do that well and McGough has not started a full season yet. TBD on them. Nolasco is a legit prospect, but all the way down in complex ball.
