RichRod Non-tendered: Reunion?

Post by SyrBucco »

Sometimes a change of scenery just doesn't work out. Rich Rodriguez has pitched pretty well for us, and I'm betting he would help us next season too. Mackey at the PG says the Bucs want to bring him back. I hope they do it!

RichRod Non-tendered: Reunion?

If he does come back, I would hope that the Pirates would continue to employ a flexible approach regarding who would be used to close out games. While using Rich Rod solely as a closer could boost his mid-season trade value (if he succeeds), a mix of Stratton, Bednar, and Rich Road strikes me as being of more value to the team.

Also --- no idea regarding BC's salary limitations for next year. Rich Rod for $2.5 and a low cost option seems like it should be doable, but after spending 'outrageous' money (only for the Pirates) on a catcher, and $4 mil on a new first baseman, Nutting could be getting nervous.

We may actually know within the next several hours if he is coming back.
