Ran into a Phillies fan this morning. The Phillies are currently

15-19 and have lost 5 in a row. He said it's way too early to get down on the Phils. He said "I see your Pirates have hit a bump in the road. They play in a shit division. Believe it or not the Pirates

can win it. Look at the Cardinals 10-24. Our division, with Atlanta and the Mets is difficult". I left him feeling somewhat optimistic at least until today at 1:35 :D

In some ways, I'm reminded of 2013.

Guess I don't feel so bad about the Tampa Series. The Rays

who are playing have been playing unbelievable since the

start of the season, rallied from 6 down yesterday to defeat

Gerrit Cole and the Yankees

This is more like the other teams but no sense starting another thread. With the season a month and a half gone, here are some

records with teams with huge huge salaries

Mets 18-20

Phillies 18-19

Padres 19-19

Cardinals 13-25

Teams with very low salaries

Bucs 21-17

Orioles 24-13

Rays 30-9

Brewers 20-17

Twins 21-17

Everything's relative.  St. Louis is middle-of-the-pack at 16th.  I wouldn't describe that as "huge," let alone "huge, huge."  It's only huge huge by Pirates standards.  Most everything's huge huge by that.

Twins- "very low" at 17th.

16th is "huge huge."  17th is "very low." They're less than $8 million apart.   hmmmmm.

Cardinals have been playing well recently. Then again, they couldn't have played much worse....

Shohei Ohtani with another win on the mound and four hits at the plate last night. When his career is done, will he be regarded as best baseball player to ever play, or can that be decided already?

There is always this comparison of Ohtani to Ruth. To use the answer that Chris "Mad Dog" Russo used to address the question when asked about it, "Two words. Designated Hitter."

Sorry, but Ohtani only plays the field when it's his turn to pitch. He's not even in my top 25.

I'll say this much:  he's a force to be reckoned with.

Whether the guy belongs on any lists, I can't say.  I'll let folks more wise than me (just about everyone) argue to their hearts' content.

The old guys talk smack about the modern guys.  The ESPN/Fox Sports guys and women make the Flavors Of The Month sound like they're the Second Comings. Keller's Koufax.

It's all a game.

I respect Ohtani, just as I respect all other talent

I would gladly accept him on MY team.
