heck you don't need to look the tigers you can look at the pirates for the past decade and a half, and all the salary dump trades of "big name" players that made the fans cluck their tongues at how the pirates were cheap for trading their "stars"

they pretty much all sucked before or after their contract was up anyways.

if the Pirates paid big $ to 1 or 2 guys like Bay, Nady, Sanchez, Giles, McClouth, Wilson, ect ect they could have been crippled for years and not even have had the 3 post season chances that they did enjoy recently.

There is very little margin for error for a small market team with a nutting owner

Tabata, Morton, Liriano turned into errors for Bucs that most other teams would have just shrugged their shoulders and said it is the cost of business. Sometimes you get a bargain, sometimes you get equal value and sometimes you take a loss.

I think we gave Giles big money at the time ? But we ended up trading him to Pads with a big chunk left. Giles was a great player for us those few years .Man we need a trade like that .But he was all we had .Just like with Cutch he is all we have had ..Big bats need other big bats just having one gets you very little unless you have a super stellar pitching staff.Which costs even more money with vets .

You have to have almost perfect timing to get a little window if you are the Pirates ...You need all your young arms to come together at the same time as the bats ....GL WITH THAT

Glavine /Smoltz /Avery all came together that one year.Just freakin dominated as young guys. Braves stuggled with offense tho.But kept adding and trying and trying

little chance it had an impact on final outcome but tonight is another night that Hurdle left Nova in too long. Makes no sense with a rested bullpen and DH rules.

Also, it would be great to put Hudson on DL and bring back Neverauskas.

This is why I said I won't get too excited with anything this team does. Getting blown out 10-0 tonight is just inexcusable and shouldn't happen. Another missed opportunity for the Pirates tonight as they could have pulled within 2.5 games of the Cubs and got back to .500 at 57-57. This team is extremely frustrating to say the least.

Hurdle is just fine with winning 2 out of 3 and that's part of the problem. The guy just doesn't have what it takes to make this team a winner.

Hmm? A team that wins two out of three would win 120 games.

Trouble is we go on 5 or 6 game losing streaks losing series, other teams don't have any trouble having a killer instinct and sweeping us, Hurdle is satified with 2 wins when we're winning and losing six in a row. Anyone who thinks this team is going to do anything with Hurdle as the manager is sadly mistaken. The guy has been in the game a long time as a manager his record is a dismal .490 in other words he's lost more game than he's won. Why would anyone want to keep this guy managing this team when it is obviously underperforming. CH needs to go now, so this team can move on.

One hit through seven innings isn't going to win many games. Three hits overall won't either.

Gotta go 4-2 I feel in these next 6 games on the road today in Detroit, win 2 out of 3 in Toronto and split in Milwaukee. That gets us to 60-60 and probably still within 3-4 games of 1st place with 42 games left coming home to play the Cards for 4 next weekend. You can't have another trip here where you go 2-5 or something like that. Time is starting to run out on the Pirates as far as them making up for bad roadtrips and stretches of games. You just can't afford to have them anymore if you're the Pirates. With 48 games remaining it's probably going to take a record of 29-19 the rest of the way which would be 85 wins to win this division and even that might not be enough. You any little bad stretch of games you have From here moving forward is going to hurt your chances in the long run.
