Bases loaded, loses a ball in the sun hit by Nelson Cruz, it drops, Cruz makes it to third, the throw goes into the dugout, and Cruz scores on a little league grand slam, all runs unearned as the ruling is a fielding error on Verdugo then a throwing error on Motter. The score changes from 7-1 to 7-5 as all the runners had reached after two outs.

In the top of the ninth, Verdugo tries to make a leaping catch against the wall on a drive by Austin Meadows, it's just out of his reach. It bounces off the wall, and Verdugo can't find the ball. Neither of the other outfielders are backing up, the shortstop has to come all the way out to get the ball, and Meadows beats the throw home with a game tying inside the park home run.

Watch.  We'll trade Reynolds for the guy.  Heard it here first.

Two drafts apart, both were selected in the second round. Reynolds was #59 in 2016, Verdugo #62 in 2014.

Reynolds has better overall stats, but Verdugo isn't exactly a slouch at the plate. Had a nice season in 2019 with the Dodgers. He was part of the trade that sent David Price and Mookie Betts to Los Angeles, proving even the big money markets like Boston salary dump.

Reynolds so far has shown more power and plate acumen, slashing .288/.363/.484 with 45 HR and 168 RBI in 1161 AB's to Verdugo's .288/.349/.446 with 32 HR and 115 RBI in 1119 AB's.

So, this one's too close. I think we'd trade Reynolds for Archer.

We'd need to throw Hayes in to seal that deal.  ;)

Of course, that only stands to reason.

Just finished watching Colorado and Giants- Didn't realize Elias Diaz had 15 HRs. Was Huntington GM when we let him go. Can't remember. Am now taking Prevagen. Will let  :Dyou know if it works.
He was non-tendered Dec 2019 and became a free agent. This one is technically on GMBC. I would put part of the blame on Bob though, because of the late hire for BC less than a month before Diaz was let go. He did nothing much of note in 2020, looking at his stats he clearly was the backup.

It's not a Coors field thing either, he's hit 8 at home, 7 on the road. He hit 7 HR's in July, and 4 in August. He clumped them together in July, hitting 3 in a 6 game stretch and then 4 in an 8 game stretch.

So it looks bad in a way for the Pirates, but it's two seasons removed.
I can't believe we're going to lament the loss of Diaz 2 years after most fans would have gladly driven him to the airport on his way out of town. He began 2019 as Cervelli's backup but took over around mid May due to Cervelli's injuries. Diaz was bad offensively and behind the plate. By late June he was sharing the catching with Stallings and by the end of the season he was backing up Stallings. No one shed a tear when he was nontendered that December. He doesn't hit for average with Colorado (.235 last year and .226 now) but he's hitting some HRs and his defense has improved. It's nice that he revived his career after doing so poorly for the Pirates. But I think we're better off with Stallings.

That's why I pointed out it's two seasons removed, and also pointed out how his HR's have pretty much been clumped together. It's like he's had a career two months. I'm not lamenting him, he was a defensive liability when we were told for years how great he was in that aspect. Looks like he's the Rox starter, but it's closer to evenly split.

So, now the guy's Jose Bautista Lite.

I heard for years how we blew that. OK. But, a good number of others were right with us.

I haven't lost a moment's sleep over Diaz. We have Stallings. Not that he's any great shakes, but he's a great shake compared against Diaz. Surg will whip out the stats. ;)

All of a sudden it seems the Yankees have hit a stone wall

Didn't they win 9 in a row recently though? Kind of balances out I guess. Either way I'd love for them to miss the playoffs.

Yes they did win 9 in a row. I love that the low market Rays are in First Place
