The former Pirate farmhand Jacoby Jones homered off Quintana as well.

Will Glasnow pitch on Saturday or be skipped?  Any way to know in advance?

I would think he takes his turn Saturday.

I would expect Cole to pitch Saturday. There is the extra day off (Tuesday) in there, so Saturday would be Cole's normal day, I think.

How was this explained to Williams and Brault when they had better springs?  Why are the fans liking this move in general?  Did the front office just lie (again) saying Glasnow won the job?  Or was it that the fans wanted this so it wasn't an actual lie?

This is easy to answer.  Glasnow is boom or bust.  I'm fine with putting up with the potential to bust because of the potential to boom.  Hutchison was potential meh or bust.  Glasnow is high risk, high reward.  Hutchison is high risk, low reward.  I'm not willing to risk that.  If Hutchison were guaranteed to give you 4.00 and 150 innings, fine.  But he's as likely to put up an ERA north of 6 than he is to put up a 4.  Glasnow might also put up an ERA of 6, but he is probably as likely to put up a 2.50.  Glasnow and Hutchison aren't at all comparable.

It was management's opinion that Glasnow was the best option even though he didn't have the best spring training or won the competition.  If management had that same opinion about Hutchison, this board, radio shows, and fans in general would be going nuts.

It just shows that people don't like Hutchison because how he was acquired.  People like Glasnow because of the hype even though he was bad in the majors last year and in spring training.

This completely inaccurate! People don't want Hutchison because he stinks and has already shown at the MLB level he stinks. While I don't think Glasnow is ready I would rather see what we have in him rather than the mediocrity of Hutchison.

I agree with this.  I think although everyone pretty much hates the deal in which he was acquired, few hold a grudge against Hutchison for how he was acquired.   Put quite simply, its the fact that he has pretty much stunk since being acquired that everyone dislikes about him.  He was bad in AAA and is so far immune to whatever magic dust the various pitching coaches have used to fix previous reclamation projects.

I also think there is particular backlash here because of the way Neil is trying to act like this was a baseball trade. A lot of people, including myself, draw the line at a salary dump being labeled as anything other than a dump. Bobby Hill never had a chance not because folks didn't like Hill, but because of the BS around the trade.

Watching Hutchison fail miserably as per his history while Neil is trying to sale a pipe dream is not good for business.

My only disagreement with any of that is that Bobby Hill never had a chance because he was damaged goods. Fans actually were excited about him because Littlefield had said he was the key player in that deal and we saw how bad the other 2 were. In fact, Matt Bruback was released a week or so after being acquired. Jose Hernandez was a joke so people believed that Hill would be something special. But he arrived late with a bad back, was never healthy and was out of baseball 2 years later at age 28.

As for Hutchison, fans were wondering what it was about this guy that would entice NH to acquire him and want him in the rotation after a bad career in Toronto and a brief but unimpressive stint in the Bucs org last year. If he had done well, fans would have been saying, "Ok, now we see why NH wanted him." No backlash. Unfortunately, he just continued his brand of poor pitching in ST. So NH's surprising comments that the trade was made to acquire him when common sense says it was made to dump salary annoys fans.
