And is paying someone else at least league minimum to replace him, so he's paying more now.

That's awesome! Salary is going up! I know some people who will be ecstatic.

Now that Frazier is gone and all but $3 million of Polanco is gone, the Apologists can immediately leap on Colon Moran. He is the next highest paid Pirate. After all, he is injury prone and he doesn't hit enough HR's for a 1B and he is not part of the "future" when we are good, blah, blah, blah. We must continue to pre-aplologize for making BOB richer and richer. Even though the team salary keeps going down and down, these are not salary dumps (at least until Cherington is fired), then it will be OK to criticize him.

Hold your breath guys.  Both 93.7 The Fan and the PG are reporting that if nobody claims Pooplanco he could end up remaining on the active roster.

Just because you despise how Nutting operates---as we all do--why do you channel your anger toward fans/message board posters? Who are these "apologists?" Do you mean the people who recognize how Nutting operates? It surprised no one that Frazier was traded. We expected it because the Pirates don't re-sign their players so they trade them. I don't think anyone liked it. I don't think anyone recommended it or praised Nutting for it. How does discussing it make someone an apologist? What if you are correct about Moran? What if someone--heaven forbid--recognizes how Nutting's Pirates do business and predicts Moran will be the next to go? How does that make them an apologist? Wait a minute. So far, you are the only one who has predicted it. I guess if you predict it, it's because you recognize how Nutting operates but if anyone else predicted it, it means they approve and makes them an apologist. That way you have someone to lash out at on a message board since you can't make Nutting hear you.

You are more than welcome to charge the Pirate offices with a flaming torch in one hand and a pitch fork in the other and scream your head off. The rest of us don't like how the team operates any more than you do. But discussing the moves they make doesn't make us apologists for them. Regarding the Frazier trade, the rest of us discussed the players they received. That doesn't make us apologists. They got an A pitcher, a AA outfielder with power, and a 21 year old AAA inf-of who started off the season with the Padres. That's what they got so we talked about it. But you weren't interested in discussing what they received, good or bad. So you lied and said they got "three A-ball suspects." Because that sounded worse than A, AA and AAA with some MLB experience. Then you changed it to "three utility players." Because that sounded worse than a pitcher, an OFer with power and someone who could be a utility player or could settle on one position.

We can't stop them from trading away their players for prospects. We can only hope the prospects they receive pan out. Discussing that doesn't make us apologists. And it seems to be a better use of our time than making things up about the players they receive so that it looks as bad as you can make it look as long as no one fact checks you. No one can blame you for being angry about how the Pirates operate. None of us like it. But directing your anger at everyone else and calling the rest of us apologists looks like a childish attempt to pretend that you are the only one who sees what's really going on. Guess what, Shedman. You're not special. We all see what's going on. None of us like it. But you're the only one who seems to have to have a temper tantrum and blame everyone in sight because you can't get to the source of the problem. Why don't you take your torch and pitch fork to Nutting's offices and quit blaming everyone else.

Yes, it's very curious. He can't be removed from the roster until he is claimed or clears waivers after a 7 day period. But Alford is due back today. And it's common in MLB to put players on waivers just to gauge any interest. It would be very surprising if this is the first time Polanco was put on waivers. So it would hardly be news if he was simply put on waivers with the expectation that no one would take him and he'd remain on the roster. It would make more sense if he was DFA'd which would immediately clear a roster spot for Alford. So maybe this is much ado about nothing. But even national sports media seems to report that the Pirates have cut ties with Polanco. That doesn't add up unless he was actually DFA'd or these waivers were taken 7 days ago and just now coming to light when he can become a FA or accept an assignment to AAA.
