Bednar is under team control for 4 more years.
Are the Pirates not planning to win in the next 4 years?
Trading him would be idiotic, IMO.

What if was something like a decent controllable 1bman? Not that that would be the return and I probably wouldn't trade him either, but there are cases to be made.

Maybe its time where we have a deep enough system where we could package some depth for someone that will help now and is controllable.
