Would you happen to know the catching situation in Altoona?

Altoona has nothing to really call home about. Carter Bins is the Altoona catcher with the most upside but he will have to move over if Davis is promoted.

Carter Bins and Blake Sabol. Bins is struggling with a .140 BA and is not a top prospect. Sabol has hit well in the minors (currently at .303) and can also play OF. If Davis moves up to Altoona soon I suspect it will be at Bins' expense as Sabol would probably get his ABs as backup catcher and OFer.

When they acquired Bins from Seattle in the Tyler Anderson trade, it sounded like he was going to be a good prospect. But he completely stopped hitting after high-A. Between Arkansas (Seattle AA) and Altoona, he's a career .146 hitter at that level. I've read that his ceiling is as a backup catcher at the MLB level. But he seems a longshot even to reach that level. Endy Rodriguez, who is currently backing up Davis at Greensboro, is probably a better bet to eventually be backing him up in Pittsburgh.

Could this be the night Cruz ends his slump.? He has a double and his second homer of the season so far tonight. I am hoping he has found his hitting stroke, and possibly in a couple weeks he will be in Pittsburgh.

Contreras tonight, 4 innings 1 hit 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Really good night for him. Couple more starts like that and he will be in the Bucs rotation.

Cruz with two singles in today’s game. It is good to see he is beginning to hit. It would be great to see him get on a roll with several multiple hit games. The Pirates need his bat in the lineup, and I would like to see him sooner rather than later.

They''ve said on the broadcasts there are things they want to work on him defensively. He hasn't been hitting.

The Pirates are averaging over an error a game, so how is he going to hurt us any more defensively?

No one is hitting aside from Gamel, who didn't show up today. So how is it going to hurt to let him get his knocks in the bigs?

I agree. Bring him up

Should we begin to wonder if Nick Gonzales is the Bucs second baseman of the future. One month into the AA season, and he is hitting below the Mendoza Line. He has 40 strikeouts in 89 at bats. When they drafted him, I thought he would be a very good hitter. I know this game is about making adjustments, so I hope he will soon begin to hit as the scouts etc have projected.
