Yes. But they need to understand that being aggressive without being smart is counterproductive.

Clint has had to say this at least a couple times with Sofield this season. Sofield needs to get fired for this or at least removed from coaching third. Getting S-Rod thrown out by so much would be awful decision even in a one run game. When the run means nothing it is inexcusable.

Coaches are supposed to remind players of the situation when they are on the basepaths. Apparently somebody needs to remind Sofield.

Can't see the players having any trust or faith in him after all of his mental errors this season.

Per the Post-Gazette:

“As I’m sure [Sofield] will tell you now, there’s no sense in sending him,” manager Clint Hurdle said. “You can’t send him unless there’s no play or the ball is against the track. We’ve got two outs to play with. We’ve got the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate and Bell on deck.

“We made a bad decision there.”

Now Cutch decides to get hot.

(Might as well make this series thread.)

The Trib has this quote from Hurdle about Sofield:

The Pirates often push the envelope with their running game. Yet, manager Clint Hurdle said Sofield went too far in this instance.

“You can be bold and aggressive,” Hurdle said. “Bold doesn't mean you're smart. That's the part we want to work to in a better fashion is being aggressive and smart. … There are certain times when there's not even an aggressive chip to play. There's a smart chip to play. There's a game responsibility chip to play.”

the thing about Sofield doing this several times in one season is that the players are going to remember and not trust him. Over a season that can cost the team more runs than just the outs Sofield directs them into.

I never understood the change in coaches. Was Leyva that bad? I don't really recall.

Sofield coaches like it takes a perfect throw/relay to get the runner. These are professionals throwing the ball. They have to be on the mark most of the time.
