We need two things right now:

1. Greenie to say they'll never be in first again.

2. Davis to provide a shot in the arm.

I wonder who's going? A catcher? One of the outfielders?

In the PG, it says Shelton said both catchers are staying. And Davis can play OF or DH. I would option Mathias but that would leave 1 backup infielder and give them 6 who can play OF. So my guess is Palacios. He hasn't done badly but Davis will take ABs away from him.

I like to accomodate when I can.

1.  We will probably not return to first place this year.  I just don't think the division's going to allow for it....combined with I'm not confident that TCBT will make the necessary adjustments to allow for it.

Both have proven me wrong, so....that could be accommodating.  I just wouldn't bet the home on it.

2.  Can Davis pitch? Specifically, any prior experience with relief pitching?

This season is in danger of slipping away these next 7 games this week with the Cubs at home and at Miami this week if they aren’t careful. Two games under .500 is the new low water mark for this Pirates team and the further under .500 they slip the harder it will be to recovery from. The Pirates really need to sweep the Cubs these next 3 games and make up somewhat for the Cubs sweeping them last week and get back over .500. With other teams coming on now such as the Phillies, Giants, and the Padres they are in danger of slipping further out of wildcard contention as well. So needless to say a bad week this week like 2-5 in these next 7 games or something close to that and this Pirates team is all but done and will not recover from it.
