Contreras is going to the bullpen. He certainly hasn't earned a spot on the roster but he's out of options. This looks like a last attempt to find something he can do. If he fails as a reliever, they'll likely waive him to try to get him to AAA but not worry too much if he gets claimed.

I'm a fan of Nick Gonzales. I think the guy can be a solid major leaguer but, so far, he hasn't shown it. I'm rooting for him to figure it out and come back to contribute.

I'd like to see that too. OTOH, I'd also like for Triolo and Peguero to play so well that there's no room for Gonzales. In that case, they could trade one. However, the Pirates don't trade for established, productive players because of the salaries that come with them. So they trade for relief pitchers or prospects. Seems like a no-win situation. :(

My hope is that he’s opting out of the country. That just might be far enough away from Pirates pitching.

Peguero has been sent to AAA. I am very surprised he has been sent to the Minors and it appears Williams will break camp next week.

Sounds like Triolo has won the 2nd base job and they want Peggy to play SS everyday in Indy. This means they’re simply stashing Williams away in Pittsburgh, where he’s likely not going to ever see the field and will just serve in an emergency if Cruz or Triolo suffer an in-game injury, and where he won’t take time away from either Peggy or Gonzales in Indy. It’s probably a smart move in that the four remaining middle infielders will play everyday and Williams is out of the way, but handy if there’s a problem.
