Not only does he not cause problems for management, but he seems like Cherington's lackey. I don't believe Shelton has much say in who plays or possibly even the lineup. That's why both he and Cherington must go. If Cherington stays and Shelton is fired, it will only be to appease the fans (and maybe the local media). But any replacement would only operate the same way under Cherington: using analytics to make game decisions prior to the game, prioritizing rest, position flexibility and everybody gets to play. This is Cherington's way. He's not going to hire a Terry Francona who will tell him to go shove his graphs and spreadsheets and let him manage the team.

We can still hope that Cherington gets fired. A new GM would fire Shelton.
