Shutting him down will be fine,but if there is a possibility of surgery get it done now so an entire off season can be used for recovery. I hate when the Bucs delay an operation for a few months, and then determine an operation is necessary which causes a extended down time.

He is collecting service time as we speak, right? Will he continue collecting it if he is shut down?

He is and will continue until he's healthy enough to be activated and optioned. If he stays on the active roster for the remainder of the regular season as it's looking like he will, staying in the minors till the normal super - two line should get the Bucs another year of control if my math works out. He has work to do, so I'd expect him to start the year in the minors.
