Yes Bob I've noticed that you've been very active in taking advantage of the opportunities not to add. Another area where your innovative approach to ownership forges a commitment to discovering new paths to windows in the present, future or some other time to be determined by TBMIB.
Classic!!! It has me all fired up for the upcoming season. Or maybe the one after that. Or somewhere down the line. Maybe. Not really sure.

And I now regret being critical when they didn't replace Kang and sometimes went with 1 legit outfielder on the roster. They deserve praise for seizing the opportunity not to add. TAKE THAT!, Cubs and Cardinals! You'll rue the day you added key players when you had the opportunity to not add. Ha, ha, joke's on you!!!

That quote of Bob's make me vomit. They failed at opportunistic in every fashion. Being opportunistic is having a team that got to three wild card games, winning one, but you failed to get a piece or two to put them over the top. Failing to do that isn't opportunistic. That was the time. Now, roles are reversed; we have no plan in place and no reason to be opportunistic. If this organization wasn't about going out and getting pieces to put them over the top those three years, it never will happen.

Bingo. Why I think fans need to boycott. Don't go to games. Don't watch. The only thing this disorganization masquerading as an MLB team understands is $$$$$$$$$$.

Frankly, I think maybe, maybe the best thing long term for the Pirates is that they get a lousy TV deal. Perhaps force Bob to sell?

I get this "don't go or support them" mentality. I guess I get it, I just can't do it. You are probably right. But I'm not quitting the Pirates. For myself or for my family. I appreciate the disfunction of the Pirates because it's not real. It's just sports and it is just a game. The disfunction of my real life is real and I'm glad to immerse myself in the Pirates as a distraction.

Secondly, they still play baseball. I love baseball. The Pirates are the team of my dad and grandfather. They are the team of my best friends. I love the game of baseball and I can't imagine giving it up.

Finally, my kids are 5-9. They love going to baseball games. They love the Pirates. I cannot imagine depriving them of that experience (that was so incredible for me when I was a kid) because of the owner and his infidelity to wining baseball here.

Maybe this makes me a hypocrite. If so, that's fine. I will own that and continue on. It's just a game. I will not let Nutting ultimately deprive me of the joy of baseball. He will not hold that power over me.

I hear ya, PMike. I'm not in the area but I'll still watching every game. The hardcore fans will continue to care even if ownership doesn't. And that's fine because we already saw attendance drop last season. A team can't just count on the support of their most devoted fans. A great attendance year requires the support of many who are on the bubble and will spend their money elsewhere if the product on the field isn't up to par and if going to the ballpark in the summer is no longer the cool thing to do. Last year, attendance was down 337,000 since the excitement of "Cueto, Cueto, Cueto." And in that "Cueto" season, 600,000 more fans showed up than when they lost 105 games 3 years earlier. So there's potential for great attendance. But it's not automatic and can't be taken for granted. I'm convinced Nutting is still turning a profit or he wouldn't be operating the way he is. But it will catch up to him sooner or later.

PMike- It most assuredly does not make you a hypocrite. I admire your loyalty and love of the game. I suspect most of the forum members here share those traits. Anyone who vilifies those who don't abandon their love of the game and loyalty to their team is simply blaming the victim.

By contrast here's a quote from a real hypocrite:

"The Pittsburgh Pirates deserve the commitment, the leadership that I believe we're providing."- Bob Nutting

Since the two trades last week there has been petitions for Nutting to sell the team, he has been reported as the fourth worst owner in MLB and now today Scott Boras says Nutting is sitting on a financial volcano. I am sure it won’t happen, but I wonder if Rob Manfred might be thinking about meeting with Nutting to discuss the current financial status of the Bucs. They will receive the annual revenue sharing payment this year as well as the BAM multi media payment so Manfred may want to determine the Bucs are using the money for the best interests of the major league club.
