This is a move they simply need to make. He would represent a huge upgrade.

The MLBPA needs to blow up these cheap owners and FO's not trying to win.

The fact that he was DFA's hugely increased the chances we will trade for him though, so that's good.   We love to trade for DFA'd guys, although granted most of the DFA'd guys we trade for would have cleared waivers and dickerson would assuredly not...It's possible the Rays were trying to trade him on not getting much action, so they DFA'ed him to put everybody on the clock and up the offers.

I'm pretty convinced there's collusion going on.   The owner's are suppressing Contracts this year in preparation for the huge 2019 offseason.

Yes, but not as embarrassing as the Pirates releasing Nicasio to save $600,000. All the more reason to believe the Pirates will NOT be the team to claim or trade for Dickerson and his 5.95 mil contract. If there's one thing our Buccos are good at, it being cheaper than everyone else.

One word of caution on Dickerson is that last year from July 22 thru the end of the season he batted .227 with OBP .274, SLG .389, OPS .663 and that's with a respectable BABIP of .278 and a K every 3.4 ABs. In his only other season away from the friendly confines of Coors Field, he hit .245/.293/.469/.761 with a K every 3.8 ABs. In fact, those poor 2016 stats were padded by going 6 for 11 as a visiting player at Coors Field, without which he would have batted .238.

Hoping a reporter asks NH about him.

I agree. Dickerson is a tweener. Floor is 4th OF with alot of upside due to that power and OK defense. Celing is good starter. So big range.

I'm thinking there is more to this move by the Rays. Is there another trade in the works?

Even with his poor second half, this is strange.

I was thinking exactly what you were thinking relative to Pittsburgh and Nicasio. With your second graph ... he would fit in with this offense.

While Dickerson looks like a good target, I hope that the Pirates do not pursue him. His plunge in the 2nd half last year is very concerning to me.

Also, while Ordozzi is not an equivalent pitcher to Cole, quite a few pundits spoke of him as being a potential trade target for other teams who need starting help, particularly because he is still in his 20's and is playing under an existing contract. Well, either the pundits were wrong, or the Rays just panicked and traded him to the Twins for the Twins 23rd best prospect. I know many are disappointed in the talent the Bucs received for Cole (I am okay with the trade - I am not that high on the Yankees' Frazier), but a 24th best prospect for a starting major league pitcher is really pretty sad.

Bobster, your caveat concerning Dickerson's numbers is very enlightening. I would still like the Bucs to give him a try. For a team that is desperate for power I think Dickerson is worth the risk. Not many felt Matt Joyce was a good signing after his horrible 2015 season and the Pirates benefited nicely from his rebound in 2016. I'd be willing to give Dickerson the same opportunity given his potential upside.

I'm with ya Quail. Even if he is crap in 2018 he can be released since he is still eligible for arbitration for one more year I think. If they just dump him he is a FA I think and they only lose the 2018 salary.

The problem I would have is if he plays lights out all season do the Bucs try to sign him long term? Wonder who his agent is?

Trade Harrison for him. Eat some salary.

Harrison wants out anyway. The Pirates have Moroff and Frazier to play 2B. It will probably make decisions easier.
