First time I was glad for a rain delay. We got to hear more from the old timers.

Man, I've always said, sweeps are just killers. Sweeps change the dynamics and the feel of everything.

Since the break, winning 1 of 3 in STL is acceptable. IF they can win today, taking 2 of 3 from the Phillies is perfectly acceptable. But even today there is STILL a bad taste in everyone's mouth from getting swept in Chicago.

Just find a way to win ONE stinkin' game in Wrigley, and things feel a bit different.

And when you're swept by the team you were chasing, it's even more damaging. Enter 2.5 games out, leave 5.5 games out. Just win ONCE, and you're only 3.5 out.

I guess my point is, if the Pirates can win today, they are really only one game behind where they should be post A-S Break. They'd be 3-6. They should be 4-5. They need to make up that game somewhere ... maybe by taking 3 of 4 this week vs. STL (which of course I'm not expecting.)

Also, Pirates are now 10-11 during this brutal 26 game stretch. Win today and they could be 11-11 (which i would have deemed perfectly acceptable at the outset) going into these final 4 games.

They REALLY need to win today.

I noticed a lot of Phillies fans in attendance. What I miss about the Pirates being in the central division is the traditional rivalries. Phils and Pirates seem a natural. And the series with the Mets did as well (I used to really hate the Mets). If there is some realignment at some point, I would like to see a more traditional placement for the Pirates.
