Mason Martin dominated the Gulf Coast League. One of the reasons he lasted until the 17th round was he was thought to be maxed out at 6' 200lbs. He came back from the offseason at 6'2" 220 lbs.

Every year I look at the poll and say "who did I add too early?" Seems pretty obvious that adding Max Kranick and Braeden Ogle for the 6th round was a mistake. Both had good numbers to the casual observer (me). This is why I always ask for ideas. Usually if someone has an idea for a player to add at least they'll get a vote. This is my way of getting to "who should we add next?" There are still guys on the 40 man, guys from last year's top 40, and from other rankings. Don't think Barrett Barnes is going to be getting any love this year, though.

This list is weighed heavily towards proximity to majors.

Hearn is too high IMO. Based on how we ranked their group of upper level prospects, you would think people would be very optimistic of this team's prospects.

If Luplow, Moroff, Kingham, Newman and Kramer are all guys with ML upside, then this team should have a strong near term prospect.

I had Hearn at #3. Big, strong lefty. I hope he is groomed to be a starter.

He turns 24 this year and has yet to pitch above A Ball. He'll need a light switch to go off soon, otherwise he's destined for a low leverage relief role

Taylor Hearn has a weird draft history, but also shows how he was always on the radar.

Hearn was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 22nd round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft from Royse City HS (Royse City, TX).

The Cincinnati Reds drafted him in the 36th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft from San Jacinto College, North Campus (Houston, TX).

The Minnesota Twins drafted him in the 25th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft from San Jacinto College, North Campus (Houston, TX).

The Washington Nationals drafted him in the 5th round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft from Oklahoma Baptist University (Shawnee, OK).

Evidently he did. I've known kids to grow 3-4 inches at that age. Anyway here's an excerpt from  Pirates Prospects. BTW... BA has Martin rated the 18th best 1st base prospect and Craig who we have at 16 is not in the top 20.

On Thursday, BA moved to first base and they had Mason Martin as the 18th best prospect at the position. He was a late  round pick in 2017, who played in the GCL and tore up the league, posting an OPS that was 116 points higher than the second best in the league. We heard recently that his off-season workouts have him at a solid 220 pounds, while he is now 6’2″, which is two inches taller than his listed draft height. The scouting reports that thought Martin was maxed out at 6’0″, 205 pounds, which was supposed to limit his upside because he had no room to fill out, were obviously wrong.

That is just ridiculous for the reports to say his upside would be limited by his limited growth potential.

First of all, at 205 pounds Martin was plenty big enough—heck, Mays and Aaron both only went about 175. It is easy to see Martin is a weight lifter, and if he is now 220 all the better. What an exciting prospect he is based on his 2017 season.
