Is it me, or did the anti-Hedges train (of which I was a conductor on board) get de-railed in just one game?

Sorry Austin, I'll be nicer from now on. But could you please, please, hit just a tiny bit better?

BTW, Hedges has homered against the Ranger's starter Eovaldi. Let's see if he can do it again!

I don't think so. I think everyone knows when Hedges gets a hit it's cause for a parade.

I've always appreciated the value of strong defensive catchers. Even a weak .220 or .230 BA is worth it to have a strong guy behind the plate. But Hedges is a career .188 hitter currently batting .158. It's even hard to imagine him picking up 30 points to hit his career .188. When every team has a DH instead of a pitcher batting but the Pirates still have a .158 hitter, it's a severe disadvantage. And the best prospects in the system are catchers. Hedges should be a backup catcher work with the pitchers and the #1 catcher and play as little as possible.

The Pirates had an outstanding defensive catcher in 1960. His name was Bob Oldis and he rarely played. The team didn't suffer too much when Smoky Burgess or Hal Smith caught. Hedges would make a great Bob Oldis. ;)

A triple, single, and a balk give the Rangers a 2-0 lead midway through the first.  Bucs coming to bat.

McCutchen leads off with a double. Gotta at least cut the lead in half.

Reynolds moves McCutchen to 3rd with a groundout.
