Polanco out trying to score might be caused by crazy slippery turf etc due to weather conditions. Block said it looked like he was running from the dugout to home and that his turn at third was really, really wide.

Five innings, or whatever it is, doesn’t erase two years of mediocrity for Glasnow. But, without a doubt, huge step forward for the young man tonight. He was filthy. That had to be a huge confidence builder for him. Still a little wild, but when he was in the zone, Twins couldn’t touch him. If he trusts his stuff, he can pitch in the majors.

Glasnow looks good so far if he can continue to pitch like he has so far these first two outings he will be a big contributor this season. He looks very good so far. Overall, 4-1 not bad les hope we can maybe take 3 of 4 from Cincy and finish out the weekend with a 7-2 record.

+5 Tyler Glasnow.   Keep building.  Let's come out of this year with a minimum FLOOR of an effective ML relief pitcher.   Keep it going. I hope we do not mess with what's happening. Let him be successful in the pen. Let him know he can win at this level.

The long term goal still has to be the rotation for Glasnow. He is throwing strikes, he looks good. I hope he still improves and can eventually be a starter.

For Glasnow it should be a step at a time. Give him time to assure himself he can get people out at this level before ramping up the pressure. He'll end up a starter if he's really solved his emotions issue. The Pirates are well aware of what they (could) have.

Polanco did not look graceful or quick or any of those things (and he did make a big turn at third, like a tractor-trailer trying to turn into a side street. That ball was also hit right to the outfielder. The third base coach must have been counting on a bad throw to home.

Glasnow is encouraging. Previously, he was thrown to the wolves whenb he wasn't ready and had confidence problems. I hope that doesn't happen again. I hope they leave him in the BP until he's itching to start and can't wait to get out there.

100% agree He's not ready to be pushed for a while, if ever!   He's throwing strikes in the sense that he's around the plate, but he's still walking a ton,  he's way better than previously, but he's by no means "in control" of his pitches.  He's still missing a ton of spots and walking a ton of guys, he's just closer to the zone.

So the whole situation seems delicate but very encouraging now that he CAN, possibly, be an effective reliever.    in this very small sample of "success" he's rolling with a high WHIP and a high BB/9.   The difference in this very small sample is that his H/9 is minuscule, just like in the minors for him.

Also, this is exactly where this kind of a pitcher can succeed.  You don't need to have great control to pitch out of the pen.  You don't need to have 3 decent pitches.   It doesn't need to be all cerebral and hitters making adjustments and you countering etc..    take the mound and throw 100% every pitch.    Go through the order 1.5 times if you pitch 3 innings.   Most of the time, you pitch 2 or fewer which means you face everyone once.

Musgrove is another guy that has never succeeded as a starter in MLB but has had a lot of success last year as a pen guy.  He's also got an injury history.   Perhaps he shouldn't be thrown into the rotation because we're trying to maximize the value of the Cole trade?  It doesn't mean that he WON'T succeed as a starter, but he sure didn't look very good this spring.  and he sure didn't look good last year in the bigs as a starter.  plus, with his injury history, do you really want to stretch him out with all those innings and depend on him as a starter this year and next year and the year after...or would it be better to put him back in the pen and accept good value he can deliver as a pen pitcher... and limit his innings?

Perhaps we should be using hammers to drive nails, instead of trying to use hammers to drive screws?   We are always trying to "find value" it seems.    Win games

I agree with the approach with Glasnow right now. He really has nothing to prove in the minors. His results in the minors were not helping him. The Pirates pitching coaches pointed that out too.

Glasnow is still young. He has a ton of talent. Long term, he should still be considered a starter. Most relievers are failed starters. I am not ready to say he has failed as a starter yet. Right now, keep him in the bullpen. That seems to be the plan too as Brault is getting the start tonight.
