That was such a great deal for us.  We get a guy that CAN'T see action for us and is in AAA.  Milwaukee gets a good OF, which we need now.  Yep ... great.
Jason Rogers is out of the organization and is playing in Japan.

Broxton is gone because he is blocked by our 3 all-world starters plus Luplow, Meadows, Frazier, J-Rod, Osuna, Stetson Allie and Kyle Bloom

Everybody knows that

Cole is 3rd in the NL in HRs allowed. Nova is tied for 7th. Pirate batters are 14th in the NL in HRs hit.

What's funny is that the Pirates traded Broxton for an older, more proven player in Rogers.

So, people want the Pirates to trade "prospects" but only if it works? This is what can happen when you trade an unknown.

This was a bad trade. Broxton is clearly the better player over Rogers. I also don't recall people being up in arms when this deal went down in December of 2015.

We don't get paid to make the deals. I thought it was a good deal as it looked like Rogers had a good bat (don't know if he declined or if Bucs scouts missed on his hit skills). The only concern about deal I remember is that some thought sending the prospect pitcher could come back to haunt us.

Take on Broxton was that he could become a 4th outfielder based on speed and defense.

It was definitely a bad deal because Rogers was a complete bust. Supak is a decent pitching prospect for the Brewers. It's pretty amazing that they had to give up more than Broxton to get Rogers. What also sucks, is that they probably could have gotten Khris Davis for that package.

I do question Huntington's drafting. The Pirates did get Mitch Keller (64th) a couple of picks before Supak (73rd), so that is good. But is Supak really moving along like he should? High School pitchers are always tricky.

No, what's "funny" is that anyone would think a dying Pirate fan would consider trading ANY prospect for someone like Rodgers as satisfying our basic need for life's essentials.

How about Broxton for a Bruce? Or Broxton in a deal that returns a #2 pitcher? The Pirates horde prospects then suddenly use two to dump a salary and another to add literally nothing this team truly needs just makes everything worse. Bad strategy plus bad execution = very very bad results.

(The very definition of "VERY VERY bad results"? Making a peanut trade where the Pirates actually give away, in one player, an MLB quality OF AND legitimate power.).

This is what is confusing: Do you want the Pirates to trade prospects or not?

The Broxton deal did not work out. The Brewers got the better player(s). So, was this a bad move to trade the prospect? Was Broxton even a prospect?

Isn't this a reason to hoard the prospects?

In this example, I didn't think it was a big move to trade for Rogers. They gave up potential for the now. Rogers was going to help the 2016 team more than Broxton. But this trade hurt the future as Broxton was needed in 2017. This is the gamble. This is why prospects aren't moved as frequently. Do you want to trade the future for the now?

You seem to say Yes, you do want to do that. So, how can you be upset when the move backfires? It is what you want.

This is the flip-flopping I don't follow. You can hate the front office and bash them, but they did exactly what you wanted them to do. It just didn't work out in their favor. It turned into a bad move.
