It's all good - Steve just reminded us that the Pirates beat the Cubs 22-0 back in the 70s. Take that Cubbie fans!

Meanwhile, Joe Block is contacting the Brewers to see if he can return.

I'm sure the remaining fans would vote for that.

It is sad that the Pirates have failed so badly to build off a 98 win season that the enthusiasm for the 2017 squad has dwindled. Attendance is poor and I even noticed that the debacle from last night drew only 13 comments on this game thread (14 counting this one). This forum has a collection of the most strident Pirates fans and the apathy has set in so deeply.

In the nice to see column, Osuna had a nice game and seems to be coming around. Hope he can build off of it.

Yes but he also whiffed on a fly ball, adding to the nightly defensive atrocities. Even Cervelli dropped two throws. If Clint Hurdle's strength is his ability to motivate players, I wonder how bad these guys would be if they weren't motivated. :o

It's not apathy. What is there to say. Everyone on this board can see what's going on.

On one hand, you lose 2 of your top four bats to various stupidity.

The pitching is great, but they are playing shockingly bad defense.

It doesn't have anything to do with building on a 98 win season. If the players on the payroll would just be accountable and do their jobs, we wouldn't be in this place. Seriously, when we finished last year, who thought Kang and Marte would be out for HUGE parts of the season. Who thought Harrison and Cervelli and the rest of the defense would be this bad? People had questions about Bell. He's the least of their issues. The concerns people had are not concerns at the moment. The concerns of the moment are things no one could have ever foreseen.

Kind of like last year when McCutchen had his worst year ever.  Harrison didn't show up.  Jaso was not an improvement.  Cervelli had a bad year at the plate. Cole was average. Liriano stunk.

Only three teams since 2008 have improved/advanced further on their playoff teams from the previous year.

Don't know about this board but something bad is settling on Pirate Nation. Right or wrong, there are a lot of conversations "at the barber shop" (literally at my barbershop) and on the radio reflecting growing disgust with the Pirates. No body could foresee Kang and Marte situation. But the Pirates have been exposed.

They walk an incredibly thin line; success for the Pirates requires everything to go near perfect. Kang and Marte could well be totally unpredictable, but "things happen" is the norm in baseball. If Kang and Marte were on the field we would still be only one or two injuries away from disaster; another sub-par year from a couple key players or one or two bad attitudes away from falling on their faces.

Almost unbelievably bad play is taking place all over the field. Why? Marte and Kang should not cause such a disaster all over the field. There is no excuse

Last nights game was an embarrassment, not because the Pirates got beat like a rented mule but because it didn't look like a major league roster (even Steve Blass said it looked like spring training).

Lastly I agree with Speedloader - they failed to build on the 98 win team. Just did. The team we have today is directly tied to any action/nonaction taken after the 2015 season. I don't know why this is so contentious: they rolled the dice and lost. No other way to describe the situation. Maybe their decision was a sound one, but to say their decision has no impact makes no sense.
