Cubs and Pirates since May 10th

Post by ChitownBucco »

after the Cubs loss today they are 27-26 since May 10th

Pirates entering today are 26-26 since May 10th

Cubs aren't invincible and Pirates ain't scrubs

1-8 head to head vs the Cubs is the big difference.

10 more games vs the Cubs this year.

anything can happen

Needs to start happening this weekend. The Pirates at the very least need to win a series against the Cubs and take 2 out of 3. Hopefully one of those wins comes against Arietta on Friday night as well. It's about time the Pirates beat Arietta for a change and quit shitting their pants everytime they face him.

Bucs need to take 1 of 2 against the Cards in the remainder of this series and then turn around and openly demonstrate to the Cubs in Pittsburgh that they can be beat.

A sweep of the Cubs would be really sweet, but finding someway - anyway - to beat them 2 out of 3 is really needed.

Hoping that Cole can come back and show that he is ready to contribute as the ace of the staff.

Also hoping that another of the starters can go 6+ good innings against the Cubs. The pen has been on an unbelievable and likely unsustainable run, and at some point you can't keep asking and expecting that the pen will turn in 4 - 5 innings of scoreless relief every night.

Almost wishing that Jared Hughes was the Pirate all-star because by Sunday night, every other reliever in the pen's arm is likely ready to be falling off. Perhaps Tekulve can come down and throw an inning or two in a pinch.

Cubs lose again last night to the Braves in that make-up game they played 4-3 at home in extra innings. The Bucs missed a chance to pull within 7.5 games of the Cubs with a win yesterday. As I have stated numerous times it's time for the Pirates to quit crapping their pants when they face Arietta and beat him for a change. Two out of three in this series puts the Pirates 7.5 back at the break, and a sweep puts them 5.5 back. Getting this first one tonight against Arietta is huge it could really spark the Pirates the rest of the series.
