1987 Finish

Post by UtahPirate »

This hasn't quite been a Syd Thrift remake, but this September has been feeling a little like 1987 when Jim Gott promised 25 wins in the last 38 games for the last place Buccos. It's a year I remember well as we'd been so bad leading up to that year.

And while it's not quite a Thrift overhaul, there has been a pretty big roster shuffle which will continue with Mercer and Harrison gone, and any moves that are made in the off-season to fill some of the holes we have.

I guess I always feel winning in September is more important than most. And its based on that 87 team that learned how to believe in themselves after the deadline that year.

It's hard to separate the baseball "hope" factor from reality, but I have really good feelings about this group moving into the next few years.

Jim Gott turned out to be a great player and leader for the Bucs. I've always felt bad that he was injured and wasn't able to enjoy the Division championship years.
