Lyons has evolved into a two-pitch guy, throwing over 50% sliders in 2017 and 2018. His slider is down to 79.6 mph in 2018 – his fastball is only at 90. When a batter can sit on two of four pitches coming in at 79, you better have pinpoint accuracy. Lyons hasn’t. For comparison, Taillon is averaging 90 on his slider this year.
Has anyone heard any more news on Keone Kela from the Rangers? Potential returns from the Bucs have been all over the place, but Kela could be a nice addition for the next several years.

Hmmm... Both of those guys' MLB stats look like what we already have in the rotation. We don't need any more Kuhls. That said, Bundy is pretty young and has the look of a guy who got rushed through the minors. It wouldn't surprise me if he broke out next year or the year after. He is only 25. It's interesting because Baltimore has the worst by far starting rotation in the league. They don't have anything on the cusp in the minors to help that, so they want to trade their best starter who isn't a stud, but isn't horrid. It's not like they will geta ton for Gausman. We aren't talking about a DeGroom type of arm. Givens has sucked this year.

I just posted in another thread about a guy like KeBryan Hayes and also Will Craig and what could the Pirates get back for one or both of those guys and can they or will they be used as trade chips by Neal Huntington to maybe bring back a quality veteran starting pitcher. Just wanted to get some thoughts on this??

Gausman, 27, is in his 6th year of a mediocre career. Years ago he was given a big hype as a future stud. But he is consistently inconsistent, equally apt to pitch a dominant game as a horrible one. A totally unreliable pitcher at this stage. He seems to need a change of scenery and let some other team try to fix him. But he's not much more than an "innings eater," a term generally used to mean someone who pitches often but not well.
Bundy has real value. He was rushed thru the minors because when drafted, he held out for and foolishly received a major league contract. So to put him in the minors from day 1, they had to use an option. In his first 30 professional innings in low A-ball in 2012, he had a 0.00 ERA, 40 Ks, 5 hits, 2 walks and a WHIP of 0.233. He made it to AA that year. Then he had TJ surgery and missed 2013. After a year off and limited minor league experience, the Orioles had to use Bundy's 2nd option in 2014 when Bundy returned for a handful of minor league games. Still far from ready in 2015, the Orioles used his 3rd and final option to keep him in the minors but his season ended after 10 games with shoulder problems. Out of options and with limited minor league time, most of which was just to get him into pitching shape again after TJ, the Orioles were forced to keep him on their roster in 2016. They tried to use him sparingly in the BP but he impressed them and became a starter by mid season. Since then he has had numerous dominant games but also is prone to pitching slumps where he can look awful 3-4 games in a row. He's just 25 and still getting better as this is only his 2nd year as a full time starter.
Bundy probably won't be traded. Gausman is arb eligible next year, a FA in 2021 and probably won't get much better by the time he would leave the Orioles anyway. Wouldn't be at all surprising if they traded him maybe for another young pitcher with potential. The Pirates have a few of them but why take a chance on Gausman?
