You’re absolutely correct. You’d think with all the brainiacs in the back rooms of PNC Park one of them would explain this to the field staff. But this goes back well before analytics was an idea. It’s Baseball 101, as old as the game itself. These people are cement heads.

Don't know why Suarez was taken out with a 3 hitter, 1 walk and only 84 pitches. But I guess the Phils manager wanted to do the Pirates a favor. 1-1.
