Cutch Coming Home

Typically, now that the team is closing in on the time it’s going to be competitive, I’d rather not have an older veteran join the club as he’d likely take time away from a young player. But with the DH, this is not a bad move. A veteran works best in that role so McCutchen is a positive addition. He should be a good influence on the younger guys as well.

I don`t like the move. I would rather watch a young guy struggle then Cutch. Need to find some room for all these OF.

I like the move. It is like the AJ Burnett contract. Cutch knows how to win and he can be a great clubhouse and also a positive influence on the kids on the team.

Ordinarily, I’d agree.  But McCutchen will likely be here for just this season, mostly DHing, usually not a good role for a young player.  I’d rather have a young guy playing a position, gaining experience at the plate and in the field.  McCutchen’s signing won’t likely get in the way of that.

If McCutchen does end up playing a lot defensively, then the team has a serious outfield problem.

Cutch Coming Home

I'd like to know which "young" OF prospect he's blocking? Suwinski is a platoon player. All the others have been hanging around and not one has done a thing to show they are MLB caliber players, with only Smith-Njigba in question because of his injury last year. Marcano? Swaggerty? Mitchell? Joe? Vilade? Please, give me Cutch "taking away" their AB's as much as possible.

Precursor to a Reynolds trade? He's been on the effing block for how long now? I seriously doubt IF Reynolds is traded, that Cutch's role changes one iota, and his signing has zero reason for any trade.

He's not the Cutch of old. But he's an upgrade over what appears to be a gaggle of AAAA types.

Last but not least, the "It's just a PR move". I have read for months now people saying, "sign Cutch if for no other reason then to let him finish as a Pirate." Yes, he's certainly going to get a few sales people on the line now, so what? It's what people who go to the games have been asking for. God forbid the franchise actually do something that appeases the fans.

Cutch is an upgrade for the team, he makes them better, so from a baseball standpoint, BRAVO!!!!

Okay, rant over. :) :) :) :)

Question --- If Cutch is having a decent season through mid-July, and the Pirates are not doing well, would you trade him away from Pittsburgh a second time?

Similarly, if he tanks, would you release him?

NO and NO

He deserves to be treated with dignity just as he represented the Franchise for his 9 years

I think he only gets traded if he says he wants to go.  I remember being a little shocked when Bucs traded ElRoy Face.  I think they had him pitch in a game to set appearance record for the NL league.  Perhaps it was to give him a chance to be in another World Series.

I agree. He wasn't brought back to be sent shipped out July 31st.

he will retire as a Pirate imo

I expect him to be in the lineup 3 or 4 days a week especially against Left handers either in left or DH

Pirates will be stuck with a bad Cutch and then will have to hide him, to avoid cutting him and all that hoopla. That`s how things go with this team.

Our team's 2022 HR leader is going to get dumped, whether it's before Opening Day or the TDL.

That leaves one guy from last year's team who hit more HRs than McCutchen did last year.

I think that I'll take Cutch over any suspect we've got.
