We have already gotten more out of Edgar Santana than we will of about 90% of prospects. Upside is definitely a thing (and the most important thing) but so is the fact he has already "made it."

I'm still going Ogle. I think he's going to be the 2018 breakout pitcher, at least if any of those 2016 prep pitchers breaks out, it will be him.

I'm slightly worried that Martin's career is more like a Carloz Munoz, than a Bo Bichette. Meaning a guy comes out of nowhere to rake in a rookie league,and the shine just fades as he's not able to replicate it the performance at the next level. But hopefully I'm wrong, but I'm eager to see what he does in WV. If he hits again like that, than he's a top prospect in the system, or he doesn't and he's just a guy.

I don't know much about Martin or Munoz. I do know that Martin was drafted and might have more discipline. I feel American kids are more advanced in the little things that make a good ball player. Martin was also 18 years old, not 21 like Munoz. Does age matter?

I definitely have my eye on Martin. Why was he drafted in the 17th Round (508 overall) if he was this good?

Wasn't Martin committed to an NCAA team and was supposed to be a tough sign?

He was committed to Gonzaga, but I'm not sure if he was considered a tough sign or not.

I think with the HS draft prospects, there are so many later round guys that have commitments that are drafted with the hope that a couple hundred thousand dollars can entice them to go pro. I don't think anyone really knows how most of these prospects will develop, cause if they did, wouldn't guys like Trea Turner and Walker Buehler have been drafted in the first round and offered millions of dollars as opposed to end of the draft and offered 350K?

There's a chance that the Pirates struck gold with Martin, but it's too early to tell.

Didn't have great size (although he grew 2" and gained 20lbs ) and not a great defensive prospect. Also played in the state of Washington , so limited games and not lots of exposure. He had also already signed a letter of intent with Gonzaga. Pirates gave him 350K to sign , which is WAY over slot for a 17th rounder.

I know you're expressing a commonly held opinion, but I don't understand the Martin size issue. Looks like he was 6' 200 lbs coming out of high school. I guess the idea was that he was completely filled out and couldn't add weight to his frame?

I have no clue, but if reports are accurate, and he is now 6'2 220, that puts him as the same size as Votto.
