Bucs Sign Two Pitchers To Minor League Contracts

The Pirates have signed Brandon Maurer and Vincente Campos to minor league agreements today. Couple pitchers to see if they help AAA and eventually join the big club.

Here's Wilbur's assessment of Maurer. Seems right on target. Just a case of Bucs taking a flyer on someone who's just glad anyone would want him.

So, what's the body count - three pitchers with career MLB ERAs over 5; a slap hitting middle infielder and a reclamation project in Chisenhall?

Yep, all in all, one of their better off seasons.

i think E. Gonzalez will be ok, no worse than Mercer, but these other guys, especially the pitchers, i see nothing in return. Chisenhall may pull a Matt Joyce on us and actually be decent.

Chisenhall's pretty good if (IF!) he stays healthy.

Mauer’s base contract is 1.5 million with another 1.25 in incentives. Also he can opt out of the contract on March 24th if he is not placed on the roster.
