Swaggerty was red hot at Indy, and the Pirates believe in resting hot hitters. No one is better at that than Shelton. So Swaggerty was promoted so that Shelton could rest him.



Although by Shelton's standards, Swaggerty has had a grueling schedule:



6/5: sit on the bench and watch

6/6: no game

6/7: start

6/8: sit on bench until 8th inning

6/9: start

6/10: start and get 2 ABs until being PH for in the 7th by Whiff Chang (who whiffed).

6/11: sit on bench



I'm guessing that after yesterday's game, Shelton woke Swaggerty up to apologize to him for not getting him enough rest.
