This is what i would do if i was the GM.



1st... I would sign Nova 4/$60m  .That`s Big money but i really think the guy felt comfortable and he obviously preformed . He can be the vet anchor . Like Burnett did for us . Pretty sure Nova already went though the TJ thing so we sure be ok.



We need to sign him....

2nd thing i would do.



Trade Meadows and Glasnow to Tampa  for Chris Archer.From reports that was the asking price at deadline.

Yep it will hurt in our heads but what we know is this. Archer is young / cheap and has had success in the AL toughest Division and has 5 years left on contract.



2017 Rotation and the Window



Nova....4 years

Archer ....5 years

Tallion....6 years



Thats a solid 1-2-3

If we cant work a deal with Tampa .



Take it to the Braves for Tehran...Meadows plus a big prospect should get ti done.

They will all want Glasnow but something in me says " fine" .The Kid wont figure it out until year 4 or so.



Meadows is a home town Georgia Kid.

Working on trading him before his shoulder or elbow blows up. And he is our greatest chip in the game.

I dont think there will be a huge Nova market in the AL.



Teams have seen him....If a Lefty maybe. ala Happ.



So i gotta think Pirates only competing with NL teams.



AL to NL  pitchers has done Bucs well.



Need to keep working that angle.

We need to find a way to pry Byron Buxton from the Twins.



This kid has been so mishandled its a shame to the game.



He will flourish with a full AAA season at Indy until August.



Maybe some Newman / Hayes /Keller prospect types could get him.



But he needs out of Minny.



Maybe a take on Mauer portion of contract say half 23 mil + Buxton.



Mauer needs a new scene and so do Buxton...Mauer solid vet can play 1st .



What you think.



Something tells me Mauer would get rejuvinated for the Buccos .

Trade bait. Which most will reject but I like. Nova - to sign him at $60 or $75 will take both a new GM and a new owner.



I'd rather trade one of our existing OFers then Meadows, plus a major leaguer would bring more. I know it creates a hole, but much easier to fill.



Trading Glasnow is an interesting idea. He'd gave to bring a ton it no deal, but maybe....



Rich - I think you've got the right idea. We can tinker around with a good but not great team or we can take bold action looking for greatness. I prefer the later.
